There’s nothing like getting some words of wisdom from someone who’s been in your shoes! It’s always fun to hear from someone who’s been there before. We rounded up three of our very own Becky’s Brides alumni and asked them some questions about their wedding planning experience!
Catherine and Alex were married on October 29, 2016 at Park Crest in Hoover, Alabama. Since then, the newlyweds have moved to Huntsville and have enjoyed transitioning into married life! They were also the winners of our “Best of 2016” Birmingham Date Night giveaway!
Kim and Blair tied the knot on July 23, 2016 at LincPoint in Birmingham, Alabama. Kim is a teacher and Blair is an attorney. They enjoy weekend trips to visit friends and take every opportunity they have to head down to the beach! These two recently purchased their first home in Hoover and are loving this season in their lives!
Savannah and Clay said I do on May 15, 2016 at Southward Plantation. Savannah is in her last semester of nursing school and recently became a dog mom! They adopted Max, an adorable springer spaniel puppy, a few weeks after their wedding! They currently reside in Pell City, Alabama are loving married life.
What was one thing you were glad you did during your wedding planning?
Savannah – “Of course, the best decision we made for the wedding planning process was hiring Becky’s Brides. The entire process was seamless and without stress. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing! Also, the fact that I was completely worry free the day of the wedding is priceless. As my bridesmaids and I walked through the venue after set-up was complete; I was overwhelmed with joy as I saw my dreams and visions come to life!”
Kim – “Getting engagement pictures. Blair and I aren’t very camera savvy. We’re more traditional when it comes to pictures. It definitely allowed us to see what posing and being in front of the camera would feel like.”
Catherine – “During wedding planning, first of all, I’m extremely glad we got a wedding planner. That made everything more enjoyable. I’m also really glad we used the Aisleplanner website. The website kept everything in one place for all parties to see. What a lifesaver! In addition, I’m really thankful that Becky had me meet with every vendor before deciding which one would be best for us. It’s hard to make big decisions from a photograph or by word of mouth so meeting everyone and discussing details/vision was very beneficial.”
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Kim – “Aside from the actual ceremony, one of my favorite things was getting ready. I loved being around the people I loved the most to help make the first part of that day even more perfect.”
Catherine – “Besides getting to walk down the aisle and marry my best friend, I think I enjoyed the reception the most. Our band was incredible so everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves. I loved seeing everyone that came to support and celebrate our marriage dancing and hanging out together. It’s a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget! Earlier in the day my nerves and emotions were very scattered so once the first look, pictures, and ceremony were finished we were about to kick back more and let loose on the dance floor!”
What is one thing you wish you had done while planning your wedding?
Catherine – “While planning my wedding, I wish I would have written thank you notes along the way!! Wow those bad boys creep up and seem to multiply by the day. I want to thank everyone and let them know how grateful we are, but I wish I would have started writing them when we received them!”
Savannah – “This is a hard one. But, if I had to change one thing, I would have nailed down the guest list sooner. I wasn’t able to get an accurate count of how many people to expect until closer to the end. Our guest list just continued to grow! If I didn’t have Becky, I could see where this would have been a problem.”
What was your favorite design element incorporated in your wedding?
Kim – “One of my favorite elements was my venue set up for tables. I loved having a variety of tables and not all the same. I also loved our ice cream sandwiches from Big Spoon instead of a traditional grooms cake!”
Catherine – “Oh gosh, my favorite design element would start with the color scheme and theme I chose for my wedding. I wanted a Fall fairytale with dark red, oranges, golds, yellows, and all other warm colors. This set the tone for such a romantic chic wedding! Becky was so detailed oriented that she made sure every vendor created the perfect design elements to compliment my taste and vision. I hate to be cliche, but I couldn’t pick one specific design element over another.”
What’s your best piece of advice for brides-to-be?
Kim – “A lot of people are going to want you in a lot of places leading up to the wedding. While it seems stressful, but also fun, it can be overwhelming. Just remember that all these people love you so much and are just as thrilled to be celebrating you. Enjoy it all!!”
Catherine – “I have two pieces of advice for you brides. Don’t be concerned with everyone else’s feelings. I’ve told all of my friends who are getting married now that it is the biggest day of YOUR life and it’s the one event where it’s okay to be selfish! Unapologetically wedding plan, this is for you and your soon-to-be hubby, girl! Also, be in the moments. Every shower, tea, wedding event is so incredible! Actively remind yourself to be present (not thinking about the next event or if your husband will mess up your makeup with cake on the day of). Be totally present and thoroughly enjoy everything. It goes by in a blink!”
Savannah- “If I could give one piece of advice, it would be to not sweat the small stuff! We literally took it one thing at a time. Looking back over the entire process, it was enjoyable and FUN. I wish I could re-live the whole thing again and again. My fairytale wedding came to life, and now I get to continue to live out that fairytale single everyday!”
