Becky's Brides is a Birmingham, Alabama based wedding planning studio creating joyful weddings full of Southern hospitality. Thanks for stopping by.
Bigger isn’t always better, and this rang true for Becky’s Brides couple, Deja and Darnell. From the very beginning, our couple’s vision was small and intimate. And from the very beginning, we loved these two sweet people. With a guest list of 50 people and an amazing team of vendors, this gorgeous Fall wedding did not disappoint. Captured so gorgeously by Mallory Kathering Images, we are so excited to share this week’s installment of Becky’s Brides, Real Wedding Series with you.
Meet Deja and Darnell
This wedding day started at the historic Tutwiler Hotel where our wedding party spent the morning enjoying time with their friends and preparing for a wedding that Deja and Darnell will always remember. Tess with Rawwbeauty provided make-up services, and (oh my word!) we were blown away with how flawlessly beautiful Deja was for her special day. Although, it is pretty easy when you are so beautiful to begin with.
Hothouse Design Studio provided floral design services, and we are in love with the outcome. Absolutely stunning! After a romantic first look, Deja and Darnell were taken by limo to Avondale Villa, a small yet romantic venue in the heart of Avondale. If you are not familiar with Avondale, here you will find a historic Birmingham town on the wings of vision and restoration. (We highly recommend that you take a trip here as it has many amazing restaurants and fun breweries. It has truly become the up and coming modern scene for Birmingham residents. You will also find a grilled cheese to die for.)
Deja and Darnell’s venue choice encompassed lots of beautiful red brick, vintage windows, an amazing fireplace and an outside patio. Hothouse Design Studio did a phenomenal job taking Deja’s focal colors of orange and grey (mixed with actual oranges) and designing the dreamiest backdrop for our couple’s richly intimate wedding ceremony. We were blown away by the beauty in Deja’s bridal cake which was so elegantly created by our friend over at Cakes by Kim. Darnell has a love for sweet potato and pecan pie. So in lieu of your typical groom’s cake, Darnell selected mini pies in his two favorite flavors, which were also provided by Cakes by Kim.
One thing we loved is that Deja and Darnell pulled out all the stops for their wedding, but they managed to have fun during the process. They made their wedding a time where they were able to enjoy their guests, never once creating an environment that was too serious, uptight, stuffy or formal. They had D’Armond Catering host a fun, yet unique dinner. The menu included hotdogs, chicken fingers, cheese dip and all the fun treats you would have while chilling out and relaxing with friends. Brandon with Feel the Beat Entertainment provided DJ services, and this was definitely a party we will remember. We always love when the dance floor is strong, and this one was strong to the very last song. The night ended in a large group hug of Deja and Darnell with their closest family and friends. One thing we learned that night: when you end in a large group hug, it must mean you had a fun night! We had such a joyful time celebrating with Deja and Darnell, and this is one sweet couple that we will definitely remember for years to come. Thank you so much for trusting Becky’s Brides with your special day!
Before you leave, here are a few more fun details of Deja and Darnell’s wonderful wedding day. We hope you enjoy!
