Becky's Brides is a Birmingham, Alabama based wedding planning studio creating joyful weddings full of Southern hospitality. Thanks for stopping by.
Since Becky’s Brides is based in the Heart of Dixie, you should know what we love our southern wedding traditions. Although some traditions are to be cherished, some can be avoided in your wedding planning process. We believe that since each couple is unique, each wedding and the traditions that are incorporated should be unique! We strive to make our brides big days feel like it was perfectly special to them. We’re sharing five wedding traditions that you might not need to follow!
Wearing a cathedral-length, white veil: While we certainly adore a gorgeous veil fluttering in the wind, it’s definitely not for every bride! From flower crowns to sparkly hair pieces, there are so many unique styles that brides can go for these days. Choose whatever makes YOU feel your most beautiful!
You can’t see each other before the ceremony: While more and more couples are choosing to do a private first look, some still believe in this old tradition. We’ve done our research, and the real reason behind not seeing each other before the ceremony is actually not romantic at all! This tradition began when marriages were arranged. The bride would meet the groom at the altar and not see each other before so that neither of them could back out! First looks give you more time for beautiful photos and gets rid of all those anxious nerves! Whenever you choose to see each other or not, make sure it’s because it’s important to you, not because it’s a ‘tradition’.
Bridesmaids dresses must match: While all of your maids are your best friends, they may not all be shaped the same! Find dresses that fit each one of your bridesmaids comfortably! This might mean different styles of bridesmaids dresses, and that’s okay! Want to keep the same style but still mix it up? Try different colors in the same palette! There are no rules when it comes to your bridesmaid dresses!
You have to do a bouquet and garter toss at your reception: This is totally up to you and your fiancé! Sometimes brides and grooms don’t want to pull all the single people out in front of everyone, which is always appreciated by those single folks. You set up your reception to flow however you want to! Your guests will surely oblige to your wishes on your big day.
You should have one flower girl and one ring bearer: This is definitely not the case these days. Every weekend, we see something different when it comes to the kiddos in the wedding! We’ve seen multiple flower girls or just a ring bearer or neither. You and your fiancé can include however many children you’d like! It’s your wedding day, after all.
